2024. 28 x 28 cm.
Taking cues from observing the different layers of life forms that constitute lichen, the series ‘Layered Life’ was created out of at least three layers. One layer of acrylic polymer paint on clear acetate, one layer of alcohol ink on clear acetate, and the final layer of chalk pastel on paper. Lichen is abundant here in Tasmania and are a constant source of inspiration for colour, texture and construction.

After some tumultuous years overseas which culminated in my relocation back to Tasmania in 2021, laden with emotional upheaval and the chaos of moving during the pandemic, this painting attempts to capture my inner turmoil being healed, soothed and nurtured by the beauty and tranquility of Tasmania’s landscape. By degrees, like a shaman, this land and all that grows on it brought me back to centre and made me whole again, my mind’s landscape transformed. Tasmania is a tonic for my soul.
